Hi all- thought I'd share a working guide on how to install SL 10.6.8 on your Dell D620 Latitude (Nivida Quadro NVS 110m version). You will need: a bootable iBoot CD/DVD, a retail DVD of OSX Snow Leopard and the latest Multibeast for Snow Leopard (3.10.1) on flash drive. You will also need a wireless network. *Warning* -Before you do anything, start your D620, press F2 at the Dell logo to enter the bios, go to Performance and disable multi-core support.

If you don't do this you ARE going to screw your install. The Dell D620 is NOT a Core2duo but a Core Duo. The Core2duo is a 64bit processor and thus OSX sees and supports its multi-core- the CoreDuo is only a 32bit Processor and is NOT supported by OSX in multi-core mode. Place iBoot in the machines drive and restart- the machine will boot into iBoot and give you a choice between your hard drive (usually shown as 'Windows' and iBoot. Do not select anything at this point. Eject the iBoot disk, place the Snow Leopard retail DVD in the drive and Press F5. The drive will spin up and the option to select the Snow Leopard Install DVD will appear.

Select 'Snow Leopard install DVD'- the DVD will now load, the white Apple start up screen will appear (with the Apple logo in the centre) and the working gear will spin around underneath. This will take about 5 minutes. When done, the 'select your language' menu will appear. Select your language and continue. Do not install Snow Leopard at this point when prompted. Open Disk Utility and click on the erase tab.

Select the hard drive and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Name your drive anything you want. Click erase and when finished, close the program and continue with the installation. If you wish to monitor the progress of the installation you will need to babysit the machine as if left alon,e the sleep function will kick in and turn the LCD screen off. If this happens, you cannot wake it and will not know the installation is finished until OSX reboots. One trick I used was to plug in an optical mouse, then sit the optical mouse on top of another (live) optical mouse so that the laser's align- this will keep the pointer moving and trick the machine into staying awake.

OSX will reboot the machine once the install is finished- on restart, press F2 at the Dell logo, open the DVD drive, remove the Snow Leopard install DVD and replace the iBoot disk. Reboot the machine and when at the iBoot menu select your hard drive and press enter. Fill out, follow and enter all the usual stuff required by Apple until you reach the desktop- this includes your wireless network key. Alicesoft English Games. Now click the Apple logo at the top right of your task bar, choose software update.
