If there's something The Sims has going for it it's longevity. The Sims has steadily remained in the top five selling PC games for over a year now, and it shows no signs of losing popularity. But to keep the people coming, you always have to give them more.

More, more, more! And that's exactly what is doing, first with the Livin' Large expansion and now with House Party. We got a chance to see the final version of today as Producer Tim LeTourneau stopped by the IGN compound with a full copy in hand. While Livin' Large was pretty much a straightforward item expansion with a few wacky gags, House Party is going one step further and it really does add a lot of new gameplay elements. The focus of House Party is -- no big surprise here -- to throw a big, raging party to impress your friends.

With the exception of the hot tub, not many of the items in The Sims or Livin' Large let you socialize as a group, but several of the 100+ new items in House Party function as a way to get everyone together to have some fun and mingle. For example, you can gather eight of your Sims around the campfire to sing songs and roast marshmallows. Or perhaps you're into 'blowing bubbles' with your friends on the 'bubble maker,' which looks remarkably like a hookah and seemed to give our Sims the 'munchies.' But we know that they're just harmless bubbles, right? Like we mentioned in our, there are three prevailing party themes in House Party: country/western, luau, and rave/disco.

In addition to a ton of new wallpaper and floor dressings, the three themes have a bevy of new items associated with each. The country/western party theme includes such items as decorative bull horns, barrel chairs, and a mechanical bull that can be used to increase your body skill as well as keep you Sims happy.

The luau theme features a lot of rattan and bamboo furniture, as well as Sims adorned in bathing suits. And the industrial meets psychedelic look of the rave theme is only missing the pacifiers and little backpacks. There are a number of useful new general items included in House Party as well. One of the most practical that we saw today is a 1x1 table that can seat four people, so now your kitchen won't have to take up half of the house. There's also a 2x1 table that can seat six comfortably, so you can have a dinner party in a small amount of space. As everyone knows, you can't have a party without a little booty-shaking music, so Maxis is also including 25 new musical tracks that span the three themes, many with lyrics in Sim-speech. Like the original, the new music sounded great, and we heard a definite Johnny Cash, Dick Dale, and Busta Rhymes influence in some of the new tracks.

The lighted dance floors will sync up with the musical beats, so not only will you hear the music, but you'll see it as well. Your Sims will dance along with the appropriate song as well, so you might see someone two-steppin' to a twangy beat or doing the Monkey when a little surf music is playing. Tim also showed us one of the new NPCs we hadn't seen before -- the psycho mime. If your party is going from lame to lamer, the psycho mime will show up and entertain your guests.poorly. Whether he's pretending to hang himself or doing the familiar 'I'm trapped in a box' bit in a steel cage at a rave, he'll bring your friends down even further until you can figure out some way to get the party pumping again. You may be wondering, 'How will I get all of my Sims over to my house for a party?'

While it took a while to get a large group of friends together in The Sims, House Party will introduce a 'party call' feature that will allow you to invite a whole group of your friends over at once. But unfortunately, if your party gets too loud and runs too late, the cops will come to break up the fun and hit you with a hefty fine if you don't clear out the party-goers. The Sims: House Party is looking to be the perfect companion to anyone who's looking to get a little more play out of their Sims. We can already envision at least one dedicated 'party house' in each neighborhood that's used for nothing but as a gathering place for your Sims to socialize and 'blow bubbles.'
